New Edition were 5 guys from Roxbury ,Mass In 1978 they performed around Boston,Mass Ralph &Ricky met on a Basketball
team called The "Celties"That was Organized by the Orchard Park Communty center.Ralph and Ricky performed together was in
middle school play. They also did the drill team together.They were ask to do a record but never did.Ricky &Ralph was
also in a play called Death ofter school.Ricky stubed Ralph.They did home work together and were called the Double R Connention.The
Original Members of New were Bobby Brown,Ricky Bell,Ralph Tresvant,and Michael Bivins.In 1978-79,they did tatent shows. In
1980 They recrutited 12 year old Ronnie Devoe who use to be in a group called the Dramatics.They did there frist professional
song @ the Strand Thearte's Hollywood Talent night.They sang The love u save by the Jackson 5.Maurice Sarr like them so musch
that he signed his boys to independent label Street Wise records. He worte the song Candy Girl which went number 1 on on the
R&B Charts.It also had songs like Is this the end,Popcorn love,Jealous Girl,She gives me a Bang.New Edition left Maurice
Starr and signed to MCA records.NE worte The song the Kinda of girls we like&I'am Leaving U Again on the Album they had
hits like:Mr.Telephone man,My Secret,Lost in Love and Cool it now witch went number 1,My Secret video feat a special sport
footage with the Lakers and NBA.It was also the first video to use pro sports footage specifically for the video.That same
year, Maurice Starr sued New Edition for their name. He felt betrayed by New Edition for leaving Streetwise for MCA Records,
and in a recent Jordan Knight (a former member of New Kids On The Block, who were also discovered by Maurice Starr) biography,
he said that he thought he would never trust another group again after what New Edition did but that he did trust New Kids
On The Block. Later in the book, he also said that he did not want revenge for New Edition. He did say, however, that he could
not listen to New Edition whenever they were on the radio, especially when they were #1 on the charts and doing better than
New Kids On The Block.
